What is Waffle?

Waffle is a daily word puzzle played on a 5x5 grid with four holes, shaped like a waffle. Six five-letter words run through it, three across and three down, but the letters have been scrambled. You have fifteen swaps to put every letter back in place; every puzzle can be solved in exactly ten, and finishing with swaps to spare earns stars.

The game launched in early 2022 and publishes one numbered puzzle per day, with the dictionary definitions of all six words shown at the end.

How to play Waffle

Green letters are already correct. Yellow letters belong in the word they are in but in another position; grey letters belong elsewhere. Drag one letter onto another to swap them. Solve all six words before you run out of swaps.

When does the new Waffle come out?

A new Waffle unlocks at midnight in your local time zone. We publish hints and answers as soon as the puzzle is available and keep every previous day in the archive above.

Waffle strategy and tips

1. 1Work the corners firstCorner letters belong to two words at once, so their green and yellow clues are the most informative.
2. 2Count yellows per wordA yellow letter in a word must stay in that word. Move it along the word, not out of it.
3. 3Plan swaps that fix two lettersThe ideal swap places both letters correctly. Ten perfect swaps solve any puzzle.
4. 4Read the crossingsEach crossing square belongs to an across and a down word. Fix it when it satisfies both.
5. 5Guess the words before swappingWrite out what the six words might be, then plan the swaps in order.
