What is Word Salad?

Word Salad is a daily word-search game played on a 4x4 grid of letters. Every puzzle has a theme, shown as a short hint, and a set of theme words hidden in the grid. Words are formed by moving between touching letters in any direction, Boggle-style, and every theme word uses only the letters on the board.

The game launched in March 2024 and publishes one numbered puzzle per day, with six to eight theme words per grid.

How to play Word Salad

Read the theme hint, then drag through adjacent letters to form words. Letters can be reused across different words but not within the same word. Only theme words count. The puzzle is complete when every theme word is found.

When does the new Word Salad come out?

A new Word Salad unlocks at midnight in your local time zone. We publish hints and answers as soon as the puzzle is available and keep every previous day in the archive above.

Word Salad strategy and tips

1. 1List the theme firstWrite down everything the hint could refer to before you touch the grid.
2. 2Scan for rare lettersA Q, X or Z narrows the possible words immediately.
3. 3Check the cornersCorner letters have only three neighbours, so words through them are constrained.
4. 4Try every directionDiagonals count and paths can double back on themselves across the grid.
5. 5Count the lettersA 16-letter grid rarely contains words longer than nine letters. Think mid-length.
